Check a proof

See for yourself that a Record has not changed.

When a Record is kept, the house publishes the list of its fingerprints on IPFS and stores it on Filecoin, on machines that are not the house's. The proof shows that the Record has not changed; it does not reveal what the Record says.

Open a proof

Paste the proof's address from the letter the house sent you. It begins with bafy.

How to check it yourself

  1. Open the proof. It is a short list: each part of the Record, and its fingerprint (a SHA-256 code).
  2. Take the fingerprint of your copy. On a Mac, in Terminal: shasum -a 256 <file>. On Windows, in PowerShell: Get-FileHash <file>.
  3. Compare. If the codes match, the part is exactly as it was kept. If even one letter had changed, the code would be entirely different.

The links above open public IPFS gateways, which are run by others; the house does not see what you open. If you would like help, write to the house and a person will walk you through it.
